Rwanda

Life Empowerment Project Through Acquiring High Level Clothes Fabrication Skills

Site Kigali City, Republic of Rwanda
Period July 2013 ~ June 2016
Target Trainees Economically disadvantaged young adults aged 16-35 in Kigali City
Project Summary Has opened and implemented a dress-making training course at only one public vocational training center in Kigali city. Targeting economically disadvantaged young adults aged from 16 to 35, advanced training courses to acquire high level clothes fabrication skills have been offered.
In the courses, trainees can actually practice using electric industrial sewing machines (JUKI), that were firstly offered to dress-making courses held by international cooperation agencies and NGOs in Rwanda. All courses are taught and supervised by both Rwandan and Japanese dress-making experts.
The project objective is to support Rwandan people to earn steady income by generating new employments. This is achieved through nurturing the young adults to become competent and competitive enough to develop new products. Targeting the global market, unique fashion “Made in Rwanda”with high quality will be also expected.

Jordan

Fair Trade business with finished trainees as a project follow-up program

Period March 2013 ~
Target Trainees Women aged 16-55 in Al-Jofa village and Al-Jawasure village
Project Summary From March 2010 to March 2013, Dressmaking Vocational Training and Skill Development Program aiming for Independence of Women was conducted (supported by Grand Assistance for Japanese NGO Project conducted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan).
After the program, two kinds of follow-up training sessions have been implemented in order to maintain and improve their dressmaking skills acquired in the program. One is the follow-up training for finished trainees (once a year or more), and the other is more instructive supports aiming at developing qualified products sold via Fair Trade.

※Objective of the latter support is to accelerate economic independence of the finished trainees as a professional dressmaker.
It covers the following actions :
- Order products and prepare essential materials for the order (ex. KIMONO fabrics, dress patterns, sewing instructions).
- Check and evaluate qualities of all finished goods
- Provide feedback and pay money, depending on quality of the product.
Remarks In February 2014, The latest follow-up training session was conducted. Two Japanese dressmaking experts attended the session.

Laos

Fair Trade business with Savannakhet Vocational Training School as a project follow-up program

Target Trainees Students and teachers of Dressmaking Department in Savannakhet Vocation Training School
Project Summary From February 2007 to January 2010, Dressmaking Vocational Training and Skill Development Program was conducted (supported by Grand Assistance for Japanese NGO Project conducted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan).
After the program, two kinds of follow-up training sessions have been implemented in order to maintain and improve their dressmaking skills acquired in the program. One is the follow-up training for finished trainees (once a year or more), and the other is more instructive supports aiming at developing qualified products sold via Fair Trade.

Remarks In October 2013, a follow-up program called “Sustainable Dressmaking Skill Development Program” at Savannakhet Vocational Training School”was conducted (supported by OSAKA Community Foundation).

Fair Trade business with women in Viengthong as a project follow-up program

Site Vienthong Village, Hinfupu County, Vientiane Prefecture, Laos
Period 2010 ~
Target Trainees Women in Vienthong Village
Project Summary From 2007 to 2010, dressmaking and plant dyeing training programs were conducted at Vienthong (supported by International Volunteer Savings).

After the programs, two kinds of follow-up training sessions have been implemented in order to maintain and improve their dressmaking skills acquired in the program. One is the follow-up training for finished trainees (once a year or more), and the other is more instructive supports aiming at developing qualified products sold via Fair Trade.

※Objective of the latter support is to accelerate economic independence of the finished trainees as a professional dressmaker.
It cover the following actions :
- Order products and prepare essential materials for the order (ex. KIMONO fabrics, dress patterns, sewing instructions).
- Check and evaluate qualities of all finished goods
- Provide feedback and pay money, depending on quality of the product.
Remarks In 2011, interviews with finished trainees to understand the current situation were conducted. Advises and instructions to improve product quality were made.

Japan

Support Program for the Victims of Great East Japan Earthquake in Kyoto

Project Summary Aiming at economic independence, work shops to acquire high level dressmaking skills have been bi-monthly conducted.
